Because most folks get frustrated from time to time, there is that endless question if depression is a real illness. The answer is: yes. The deadly one, that is. It has been stated that about 1 out of eight United States residents will possibly become clinically depressed. Several experience it once in a lifetime, while others have lots episodes.

This is a fact: if the person gets depressed the first time, there is a 55 percent chance that he will fall to the same predicament over again. And come the second time, you have the threat that he will go to a third depressing episode.

Depression is a genuine illness as it involves the mental, psychological and even physical faculties of the person. This is not only a transitive sad feeling that will go away when one wants it to. You will discover symptoms and signs as well as corresponding treatment. If not handled properly and soon, it may increase to worse conditions. Like any other illness, depression in addition has variations.

There are 3 types of depressive disorders: major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder and dysthymic disorder.

Mainly because depression is a disease, there are symptoms. Again, they are the next:

3. Feeling guilty and hopeless most the time

4. Shortage or loss of pursuits in activities that used to bring happiness to the person and this includes sex.

5. Dominant fatigue

6. Has a difficult time {making|taking decisions

7. Development of rest problems

8. Loss of appetite and drastic weight change or reduction

9. Suicidal attempts and desires.

10. Pronounced becoming easily irritated

11. Physical aches and pains which may have no physiological basis

The good news is at the end of this dark canal called depression, there is great hope. Treatment is available in 3 types: hypnosis, antidepressant medicine and the combination of the two. There are also times when electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and light remedy are employed.
